Art Classes for Kids in Flushing, Queens

Small weekend and after-school art classes where young children learn to draw, paint and finish work they're proud of.

An extracurricular that builds more than art skills

MorningSun Art has taught children in Flushing, Queens since 2006. Our youngest students start as early as 6 years old, and many stay with the same teachers until they leave for college.

In the Foundations level, children learn drawing and color basics through guided projects. Each project is a small design problem: where to place things on the page, how to show light and shadow, and how to finish what they started. Those habits of planning, patience and close observation carry into schoolwork too.

What a class looks like

  • Small classes so every child gets personal guidance from a teacher.
  • Drawing and color fundamentals such as shapes, proportion, shading and mixing color.
  • Real projects that children finish and bring home.
  • All studio materials included during class hours.

Classes run every Friday afternoon and all day Saturday and Sunday, all year round. Children come at least once a week for about 2 hours and can arrive any time during class hours, which makes it easy to fit around school and other activities.

Convenient for families across Queens

Our studio is in the heart of Flushing, a few minutes’ walk from the 7 train and the LIRR. It’s an easy trip from Bayside, Fresh Meadows, Whitestone, College Point, Murray Hill, Forest Hills and Elmhurst, a direct ride from Manhattan and western Nassau towns like Great Neck and Manhasset, and a short drive from the Bronx and Brooklyn. Routes from each area are listed below. Families farther away can join the same classes live online.

Our teachers speak English and Chinese, so you can talk to us in whichever language is easier.

Where it can lead

Children who keep going move up to our specialized high school art prep level in 6th grade, and later to college portfolio classes. Our students have won national medals at the Scholastic Art Awards and gone on to LaGuardia High School, Stuyvesant, Bronx Science and Hunter College High School.
