A portfolio that stands out
Art schools and many universities ask applicants for a portfolio of their best original work. Our college portfolio classes help high school juniors and seniors plan, make and edit that portfolio, whether they’re applying to art and design schools like RISD, Pratt, Cooper Union, Parsons and SVA, to architecture programs, or to universities as an art supplement for a different major.
MorningSun alumni study art, architecture, physics and more at Harvard, Princeton, Yale, RISD, MIT, Stanford, Columbia, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon and other colleges.
What students work on
- Portfolio planning around each school’s requirements and deadlines.
- Original, finished pieces that show skill and a personal point of view.
- Work for scholarship applications and art competitions like the Scholastic Art Awards.
- Editing and presentation, choosing and ordering pieces and describing them clearly.

Questions parents ask
When should my teen start a college art portfolio?
Junior year is a good time to start, so there is time to make new work before fall application deadlines. Students who started with us earlier often already have pieces to build on.
Is a portfolio useful if my child isn't applying as an art major?
Yes. Many universities accept an art supplement, and a strong portfolio shows a unique skill and commitment no matter the intended major.
Do you help with architecture portfolios?
Yes. Our alumni include architecture students, and we help students build portfolios for architecture and design programs.
How much is the tryout?
The College Portfolio tryout is a 4-hour class for $123.90. If your teen continues, $120 goes toward the first term.
